At the zoo. I do believe it, I do believe it’s true…
Honestly, it was probably too cold to spend a day at the zoo on Thursday, but that’s what we did. We went to Dudley Zoo. I’m sure those of you who are local will hiss through your teeth when you read that: it is a very run down, sad sort of place, Dudley, and the zoo’s not much better. However, it’s clear that they plow every last penny they get into their animals, who all look well and hardy.
And Bean was agog and full of “wow!”s, especially when we met the meerkats, and a friendly zookeeper ambled up and talked to us about them while feeding them bugs.
The best part, however, was the lemurs. There is an enclosure you can walk through where the lemurs are right there. You could touch them, if you thought their teeth didn’t look threatening (I did). They eyed up Trev, seeming to wonder if he’d make a good perch. And when the sun broke through the clouds, they all stopped, turned towards it, and opened their arms wide, like Bono in concert.
So that’s part of how Bean spent her birthday: at the zoo.
